So happy we finally got the next instalment in the Scarred series! Reconnecting with the crowd from the earlier books, but also some new ones - and with the exciting epilogue - it looks like we are in for more books with these great guys and women. Hurray!The story starts sadly with the death of wheelchair-bound Adam, whom we met in several of the earlier books, leaving his two daughters in the care of James, one of his best friends who was injured in the same suicide bombing years ago.
As with all the books in this series, we get to spend time in France at the chateau meeting with all the couples from the other books and their families, and there is a mystery to solve, which seems straightforward but has a twist...
Really enjoyed the book, and looking forward to the next one which is hinted at in the epilogue (hope we don't have to wait too long though...)
Recommend to read the stories in order, so you get to know the various characters and their backstories, but can easily be read as standalone as well.

It's amazing to be reading this series. I once said that Joe was my favorite soldier from these books, but that was before I read this one, Scarred Surrender. James has taken that spot without a second guess.
I loved reading about James and Crystal how they started to how they became one. I had all emotions flared up as I read this past two days. Sadness that pulled me to tears, smiles with a bit of laughter, and happiness. These two were meant to be together.
With that said, The ending! Wow! Alex you devil, what on earth are you up too?
I can't wait for more of this series. Jackie Williams is truly writing an amazing one! Cheers ma'am!
Another heartfelt story about two people who struggle to overcome personnel scars and injuries. A struggle of a soldier who finally learns to believe someone can care for him who has been severely injured with loss of limbs
Splendid follow on to the amazing adventures of Gemma in Scarred Survival and I couldn't wait to read more of our excellent veterans exploits in Brittany in northern France. There is something so friendly in the story telling style that all the characters come to life and I feel as if they are old friends who I knew when I was younger and we're sitting by a roaring fire telling tales of derring do to each other, laughing about the mistakes we made and crying over loved ones we've lost. I forget whilst reading that James is a fictional chap - he just seems so real and his concern over his recently departed mate, Adam's, bereft daughters Emily and Crystal is truly moving. Then of course we have our baddie, no book of Ms Williams' is complete without a thoroughly reprehensible scoundrel, and I was so NOT disappointed - they are horrible but I'll let you find out how! Don't want to ruin the story do we?? Then there are some brilliant gym scenes which totally took me by surprise especially the enigmatic Saskia who will have you absolutely beside yourself. Then a dramatic finale that left me exhausted and gasping for a glass of Cotes du Rhone (essential French mood requirement) and I had to read the last chapters all over again to get the full benefit!
So all in all a MOST satisfying read. Excellent scene setting. Lovely character descriptions. Full of both humour and compassion. Please keep up the good work Ms Williams as I can't wait for more...

This series was AMAZING!!! I waited until I had all six books in my hot little hands before I started reading so I had a wonderful time binging on this series of gems. Each followed a similar script BUT had enough change with each to make them each very interesting. I would like to say that I hope this is not the end of this series. Book 6 had a departure with the addition of a giant cliffhanger. We also have characters still hanging. We have the American soldiers who left the story quickly, a wedding to wait for, a friend to deal with, and a sister to wait for. I had thought this was the finish. If so I would feel very sad but I would assume this author would not leave her readers hanging in such a way. We need to have at least 2 more books please. At that point I would be happy...oh and we would also need to have a serious epilogue to finish the update for all of the characters who were introduced. Great Job Ms. Williams! denise bailey
